Simon started his career in the city learning about all aspects of property and liability insurances, claims and risk surveying. He became assistant manager of the commercial underwriting and claims department having worked his way through the claims team and qualifying as a property insurance surveyor.
During this time he worked on and surveyed some interesting and unusual risks, including a plant printing banknotes!
Before founding Access, Simon worked at Hibernian where his roles included inspector, branch manager, project manager, and marketing manager. With this expertise in general management and marketing, and a passion for high-quality customer service he launched Access with a vision of building a business that truly serves its clients.
As a Fellow of the Chartered Insurance Institute and a Chartered Insurance Broker, Simon believes that providing quality advice in a friendly professional way is the most important thing a broker can do. He was delighted when Access was awarded corporate Chartered Insurance Brokers status in 2013.
Simon is a trustee of a local almshouse charity and a treasurer on the board of a Christian education and publishing charity. He is committed to the principles of social enterprise. In recent years Access has donated an amount equivalent to half its profits to charity. Simon is married and has two children – both in the medical profession. He gets involved with local church projects and relaxes through his enjoyment of hill and coastal walking in the Lakes and Cornwall respectively.
