Although Employers’ Liability Insurance is only mandated for staff on payroll, volunteers can be covered under it. Charities still have a responsibility for ensuring a duty of care and face liabilities if that is breached. If volunteers run the group, Employers’ Liability Insurance will cover your legal liability if one of them is injured while volunteering.
They can be.
We’ll work with you to ensure your policy includes cover for trips away from your usual venue, including overnight stays and residentials, where needed.
Yes, many youth groups run sports sessions, games and outdoor challenges.
As we work multiple insurance providers for youth groups, we can say that attitudes vary. Certainly some youth group insurance policies will not cover sports that are played as part of a competitive league but this is not an issue for most youth organisations.
We work with insurers that can normally accommodate groups that play football, table tennis, basketball, badminton and a wide range of other popular sports.
Youth clubs that have skateboarding activities should pay particular attention to their cover as this is a more common exclusion to be aware of.
We can arrange cover for a wide range of physical activities, so long as appropriate supervision and safety measures are in place.
We can arrange cover for contents, sound and AV equipment, sports equipment (although not often when in use), group-owned kit (such as games, tools or camping gear), and buildings if you own or lease your premises.
We recommend that organisations insure at a ‘legal entity’ level. If your group has a separate constitution then you need your own youth club insurance policy.
Even if your group falls under a wider organisation, it’s important to check whether the activities you plan to do, and the property you own or hire as part of the youth group are specifically covered.
We can work with you to review existing arrangements or provide standalone cover if needed.
There’s no strict limit.
We’ll tailor the cover based on how many people help run your group and what their roles involve, including volunteers, youth workers, and trustees.
It’s your duty as the insured to disclose the types of activities you will offer and give a fair representation of those, whether that be physical, outdoor, or high-risk adventure activities.
A clear overview helps us make sure your policy adequately covers all your activities.
Typically an insurer will insist that you have a safeguarding policy in place and that DBS checks are conducted as part of that policy.
They might also have requirements in your youth group insurance policy for safeguarding training (and training records to be maintained).
